Silver High School Students Kylee Jones, Issac Beck and Lizzie McDonald recently received the United States Marine Corps History Award. They were ranked top 10 in the nation and were recognized for the documentary they made about Dickey Chapelle, female correspondent on the front lines during the Vietnam War. The Foundation for Financial Education will be having a free Social Security and Taxes Workshop in Silver City today, June 19th to discuss maximizing Social Security income, how to pay less tax on retirement income and much more. Western New Mexico University’s undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs have been recognized by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) as among the best in the nation in preparing future elementary teachers to teach children to read, earning an A+ distinction. The NCTQ report shows that the programs WNMU offers are equipping future teachers to practice the kind of reading instruction that helps most students become successful readers. WNMU has been recognized as one of the few programs that ensure future elementary teachers enter the classroom with the knowledge and skills needed to help students become strong and successful readers.
The City of Deming will be having a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, June 21st to discuss the two West-Side revitalization projects, which are the Allsup’s convenience store and the City of Deming incubator project.
