As of this morning, May 7, the Iron Fire—burning 901 acres approximately 38 miles east of Glenwood since May 4—is 5 percent contained. Firefighting efforts continue with five hotshot crews from Gila, Idaho City, Blue Ridge, Flagstaff, and Smokey Bear actively engaged in constructing direct firelines. Structure protection operations remain ongoing around the Snow Lake and Willow Creek areas, where six engines have completed indirect line and chipping work. Due to recent thunderstorms and the presence of extremely dry vegetation, two engines and one hotshot crew are on standby for initial attack response in the event of a new fire start. Current resources assigned to the incident include five hotshot crews, one Type 1 helicopter, two Type 3 helicopters, six engines, and various overhead personnel.
