As of this morning, May 8, the Iron Fire, which began on May 4 and is located approximately 38 miles east of Glenwood, is now 10 percent contained. Recent moisture over the fire area allowed for an infrared (IR) flight to be conducted, providing improved mapping of the fire perimeter and identification of remaining heat sources. As a result of this enhanced mapping, the estimated size of the fire has been reduced to 822 acres. Hotshot crews have completed perimeter checks using direct fireline tactics, while engines continue structure assessment efforts in the Willow Creek area and are finalizing a contingency plan in the event of changing conditions. The management team has announced that this will serve as the final daily update; however, firefighting personnel and resources will remain assigned to the incident into next week, with further updates provided as needed.
