Grant County Search and Rescue is proud to announce that Marc Levesque, a dedicated long-time member, has been awarded the 2025 Ralph Dawdy Memorial Award, which recognizes a New Mexico Search and Rescue volunteer for their exceptional contributions to both NMSAR and the community. Marc began his career as a field team member, conducting search and rescue operations for lost or injured individuals. Over the years, his leadership and commitment were evident as he served as President of Grant County Search and Rescue and played a pivotal role in founding Mustang SAR at Western New Mexico University.
During their recent Regular Meeting, the Town of Hurley Council approved several important task items. The council authorized Task Order Number 5 for chip seal improvements, Task Order Number 10 to complete road repairs on E Street, Anza Street, and 3rd Street, and Task Order Number 11 for the installation of lightning protection at the Hurley wells to prevent electrical damage. Additionally, the council approved Task Order Number 2 for improvements at the Big Muddy Recreation Park. The next Regular Meeting is scheduled for May 13.
The Luna County Treasurer’s Office is informing the community that some taxpayers have received phone calls from individuals fraudulently claiming to collect delinquent property taxes. The Treasurer’s Office emphasizes that it does not contact individuals by phone regarding delinquent balances. Community members with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Luna County Treasurer’s Office directly.

Animas High School (AHS) FFA will be proudly represented at the National High School BBQ competition, officially known as “The Slab: HSBBQ National Championship,” taking place this summer in Kansas City, Missouri. The AHS FFA Chapter has constructed a custom, transportable barbecue smoker, which they will bring to the competition in June. Two teams from the Panthers FFA Chapter—“Team Smokin’ Hot Mess” and “Team Chain Smokers”—will compete in this prestigious national event, showcasing their skills and school spirit. Good luck to both teams at the National Competition this summer.
