Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Tanya Rivers, WNMU professor, moderated the panel, which took place Thursday evening, Oct. 15, 2015, at the Western New Mexico University J. Cloyd Miller Library.  Sponsors of the forum included Miller Library, MEChA (the Mexican American student organization), El Refugio (a shelter and program for victims of domestic abuse), the WNMU Center for Gender Equality and the Grant County Democratic Party.  Panelists were Sylvia Madrid, director of Domestic Violence Offender Treatment Intervention for El Refugio; Kelli Sierras, executive director of Sexual Assault Support Services; and Jonathan Leggett, psychologist, Hidalgo Medical Services.

Senior quarterback Mitch Glasmann will go down in record books for the second time this season setting the career passing yards mark on Saturday. Despite the new record, it wouldn’t be enough for the Western New Mexico University football team to overcome Colorado Mesa University as the Mavericks came away with the 52-26 RMAC victory. Glasmann also holds the career passing touchdowns mark, which he broke at Colorado State University-Pueblo earlier this year.  Glasmann set the RMAC passing yards record in style as he threw for 532 yards, a new career-high, as he completed 33-of-61 and had two touchdowns. It’s the second time this year he has eclipsed the 500-yard mark going for 501 against CSU-Pueblo.  WNMU returns home this coming Saturday as they will host Western State Colorado University beginning at noon. The Mountaineers cruised to a 56-7 win earlier today over New Mexico Highlands.

The streak came to an end Friday night as the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs claimed a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) over the Western New Mexico University volleyball team in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The Lady Mustangs had won the first nine matches to start the conference slate.  MSU Denver came out strong in each set on their way to defeating the Western New Mexico University volleyball team 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-11) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.  WNMU will return home this coming Friday when they will face Chadron State beginning at 7 p.m.

Agents in New Mexico were successful this week in derailing attempts to smuggle marijuana after they arrested four suspected smugglers and seized over $1.5 million in marijuana using various technology.
