The National Weather Service of El Paso has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 pm for the following areas: Dona Ana, Sierra, Grant Luna and Hidalgo Counties; including the cities of Deming, Las Cruces, Lordsburg, Silver City, and Truth or Consequences.

It’s that time of year again! The United States Marine Corps League Gaffney-Oglesby Detachment 1328 through the National Toys For Tots Foundation is beginning the 2015 Toys For Tots campaign in conjunction with several area agencies and organizations. The WNMU basketball teams will be holding exhibition games this Sunday against alumni teams. The women’s game will tip off at 1 p.m. with the men following at 3 p.m. The public is invited to come see the current teams compete against former team members.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced $12.5 million in loans and grants for 39 projects that will help rural businesses in 21 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.  USDA is awarding $12.5 million in loans and grants through the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant (REDLG) program, the Intermediary Relending Program (IRP), the Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) program, and the Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program (RMAP) program.

New Mexico MainStreet and the Department of Cultural Affairs are partnering to host a conference that will connect New Mexico’s local community builders and stakeholders with resources, networking opportunities, and means to encourage collaborative approaches to creative community economic development throughout the state. The “Building Creative Communities Conference: Revitalization through Arts, Culture, Tourism and Preservation,” will take place November 4 to 6 at La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe.
