The following is a release from the NM Department of Transportation:

The New Mexico Department of Transportation, State Police and Motor Transportation Police continue with their traffic operations as the transport of a million pound transformer makes its way through southern New Mexico the week of March 10th.

The transformer is being transported on a trailer 20 foot wide and 19 feet in height. The transporter will take up two lanes along the various routes that will cross through intersections, and travel at speeds varying from 5 to 60 mph.  The moving roadblock will affect highways in Lea, Chaves, Lincoln, Otero, Doña Ana, Luna and Hidalgo counties.

Affected routes include:  US 380, White Mill Road, Brasher Road, Main Street (inner city routes within Roswell), NM 213, NM 404, NM 460, US 54, NM 478, NM 136, NM 9, NM 80, and a short segment of I-10 as it leaves New Mexico in to Arizona. The transporter is currently near Tularosa and will continue on US 54 on to NM 404 by Wednesday March 12th.

The road closures will be manned during the entirety of the escort by NMDPS-MTPD personnel.  The scheduled transport is subject to change, depending on weather or other factors.

Notifications and closures will be posted and updated on the NMDOT road and travel advisory website at the http://nmroads.com/
