This year, several Silver FFA members demonstrated their dedication by volunteering for various events and causes, including assisting at the New Mexico State Convention and donating food to the First Baptist Church food drive. In addition, members showcased their animals at several prestigious fairs, including the State Fair in Albuquerque, the Grant County Fair in Cliff, the Southern New Mexico State Fair in Las Cruces, and the Eastern New Mexico State Fair in Roswell. Addison Drennan had the opportunity to exhibit pigs at two national shows, while Chris Bennett earned a scholarship at the Southern New Mexico State Fair.

During the Cobre Consolidated Schools’ Monday Board Meeting, the Cobre Volleyball team was honored for their outstanding achievement in the state championship. Their season and relentless effort were recognized and appreciated. Additionally, Yesenia Gonzales from Snell Middle School and Christopher Draper from Cobre High School were acknowledged as the Kiwanis Students of the Month. The school nutrition supervisor, and her team were also recognized for receiving the Golden Seed award. Congratulations to all students and staff members. 

Luna County is set to celebrate the opening of the 160-acre Columbus Industrial Park in early 2026. The development of the park has been a multi-year project, with community leaders overcoming various challenges. Efforts include the construction of concrete roads, drainage facilities, and the installation of water and sewer systems. To address flooding concerns and establish the necessary infrastructure for the park, Luna County Manager secured approximately $21 million in funding for the engineering, planning, and construction of the project.

In Hidalgo County news:

A recent multi-entity meeting was held to finalize details for Hidalgo County Day at the 2025 Legislative session in Santa Fe, which is scheduled for Friday, January 24th. During the event, Hidalgo County will be celebrated and promoted, with representatives from the city, county, schools, and nonprofits having the opportunity to engage with legislators, cabinet secretaries, and potentially the governor. Key legislative priorities, including border security, capital outlay projects, and actions impacting local businesses and residents, will be discussed. Those interested in participating or attending are encouraged to contact the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce as soon as possible.
