The Silver City Library is looking for the community’s thoughts on future planning regarding collections, digital services, activities and events, customer service, and any other items of interest. There will be two public meetings at the library, Saturday, February 4th from 10 to 12 pm, and Thursday, February 9th from 4 to 6 pm.
The first draft of Western New Mexico University’s five-year master plan was presented at a recent meeting held on the WNMU campus. President Shepard met with the university’s architect and members of the WNMU physical plant to talk about new construction projects that incorporate the Deming Learning Center, a new vocational training center to be in the mining district of Bayard and the New Mexico Center of Excellence for Early Childhood Education facility. President Shepard also provided a list of the university’s top priorities which include: assuring smooth flow of traffic, campus safety for employees, students and community members, creating pedestrian safe areas, housing expansion to handle continued growth, outdoor learning spaces, and carbon neutrality.

The Point in Time Count will be done by the Coalition to End Homelessness and will take place January 31st through February 3rd. The objective is to get an accurate count of persons experiencing homelessness statewide and learn their specific needs to better provide short and long term solutions. PIT is doing a street outreach as well as being a drop off site for donations. Deming drop off locations are: Deming Silver Linings at 212 South Copper Street, S.P.I.N. Housing NM at 416 South Silver Avenue, and Luna County at 700 South Silver Avenue.
