A Deming man is facing an attempted murder charge in an incident that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 20th in Deming. Deming Police were sent to Mimbres Memorial Hospital regarding a report of a patient with multiple stab wounds. Initial police reports indicated an alleged physical altercation took place at the 1500 block of Copper Street between the victim and a person identified as Michael C. Gomez. Deming Police have charged Gomez with attempted murder and he was also wanted on a Deming Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear. Gomez is being held in the Luna County Detention Center on a $7,000 bond.

The Town of Silver City has published Resolution No. 2018-27 that proclaims Municipal Officer Election Day will be held on March 5th, 2019. Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. B. On Municipal Officer Election Day, persons shall be elected to fill the following elective offices: District #1 consisting of one Councilor for a two-year term; and District 3 consisting of one Councilor for a two-year term. All Declarations of Candidacy shall be filed with the Municipal Clerk on Tuesday, January 8th between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. and all Declarations of Candidacy for write-in candidates must be filed with the Municipal Clerk on Tuesday, January 15th between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Persons desiring to register to vote at the regular municipal election must register with the County Clerk of Grant County not later than Tuesday, February 5th at 5:00 p.m.

The Quemado Ranger District, Gila National Forest is planning to continue prescribed burning operations as conditions allow beginning next week. The area targeted for pile burning is west of the Armijo Springs Campground. Depending on weather conditions and ventilation categories ignitions are expected to be completed in 1-2 operational periods. No road or area closures are in place.  Smoke may be visible from NM Hwy 32 during ignition operations and the piles take several days to fully be consumed. A group of Western New Mexico students will be heading out into the community this Sunday at 1:00 P.M. to request donations needed to stock the WNMU Food Pantry before the end of the semester. The items needed are as follows: non-perishable Food; protein based food; breads and tortillas; drinks; cleaning supplies; and microwaveable containers. Donations can be dropped off at the PE Complex at WNMU or more information be obtained by calling 575-538-6611.

This weekend there are many festive events going on in the area.

Native Air 32 Medical Helicopter Crew is hosting a Pancake Breakfast tomorrow from 8:00 to 11:00 at the Silver High School Cafeteria. All proceeds will go to providing Christmas gifts to those in need within the community.

The Hidalgo County Annual Christmas Kickoff and Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on tomorrow from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. with a tree lighting ceremony at 6:00

The Village of Santa Clara in celebrating the start of the Holidays with their annual Lighted Holiday Parade tomorrow night at 6:00 P.M.

The Annual Deming Christmas Lighted Parade will be held tomorrow night starting at 6:00 P.M at the Deming Visitors Center and finishing at Deming Courthouse Park with the lighting of a 30- foot Community Christmas Tree.
