Here’s a look at today’s news:

An 85- year old man in Deming, that was charged with last week with attempted kidnapping and enticement of a child, has been accused by two more people that he engaged in inappropriate behavior with children.  The two victims, now adults, came forward after Miguel Lujan, was charged with crimes involving a nine- year old child at the Family Dollar Store on South Platinum in Deming on April 7th. Police Chief, Bobby Orosco, is encouraging any other of Lujan’s victims to contact the Deming Police Department at 575-546-3012.

Three “Warrior Hikers” came through Silver City, having begun their Continental Divide Trail trek on April 18th just south of Lordsburg, at the Mexico-U.S. Border. “Warrior Expeditions” is a veteran nonprofit outdoor therapy program that helps veterans transition from their wartime experiences through long distance outdoor expeditions. In 1948, Earl Shaffer told a friend he was going to “walk off the war” to work out the sights, sounds, and losses of World War II. Four months later, Earl Shaffer became the first person to hike the entire length of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Following in Earl Shaffer’s footsteps and in recognizing the therapeutic effects of long distance outdoor expeditions, Warrior Expeditions created the Warrior Hike, Warrior Bike, and Warrior Paddle programs which are designed to help combat veterans transition from their military service. The three military veterans are from Ohio and hike separately through to the end of the Continental Divide Trail at the northern end of Montana. Local community “trail angels”, Susie and Gary Jutson, Brad Brock, and Laura Brown provided food and lodging to the hikers as they made their way through the area.
