July 30th, 2015: MRAC Youth Mural Dedication

Join us as we dedicate the latest mural projects of the Mimbres Region Arts Council (MRAC) Youth Mural Program on Sunday, August 2, at 1:00 pm at The Volunteer Center, 501 East 13th Street and 3 pm at the Silver City Recreation Center, 1016 N. Silver Street

Nineteen campers, four interns, and two artists spent two weeks at Mural Summer Camp creating a mural mosaic on the oven wall at the Volunteer Center.

For the MRAC’s most recent Comcast Cares Day event, over 10,000 community members got involved making clay tiles for the front wall of the Volunteer Center. These tiles have been glazed and installed by Aldo Leopold YCC students and grouted by campers.
Summer Camp Lead Artist: Allison Phillips, assisting artist: Junchen Huang

Camp Interns: Victor Acosta, Teja Clark, Iris Johnson, Zoey Savory

Program Sponsors: Prudential Silver City Properties, Syzygy Tileworks, Finishing Touch, J&J Signs, Morningstar Sports, and Leyba Ingalls Arts
Site Sponsors: Town of Silver City, Comcast, NEA,  NM Arts
Campers: Annabelle Jamison, Nancy Morris, Tanner Konkle, Jasper Eyrich-Bingham, Alyssa Upton-Watson, Elizabeth Knab, Luke MacPherson, Autumn Macpherson, Jared Macpherson, Andrian Mendez, Samera Castillo, Allegra Leyba, Tess Sherman, Siobhan Pyper, Kennedi Pyper, Jessi Crocker, Allen Wallace, Thomas Jackson, and Ivy Marie Stephens-Etheridge.

Join us later at 3 pm at the Silver City Recreation Center to dedicate the recently completed mural Playful Gardens. Playful Gardens was the 2014 Comcast Cares project which involved over 500 community members and students creating clay flowers and silhouettes for the mural. The mural was started on Comcast Cares Day and completed by students from the Rec Center, Aldo Leopold HS & Middle School, and JPO.
Refreshments will be served.
