New Orleans Dirty Dozen Brass Band Workshop – May 29th 3:00 pm

Presented by the Silver City Blues Society & Mimbres Region Arts Council

Seedboat Center for the Arts & Gallery

The Mimbres Region Arts Council (MRAC) and the newly formed Silver City Blues Society announce a FREE Workshop Sunday, May 29, at 3:00 pm, with New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band prior to their 5:30-7:00 performance at the 21st Annual Blues & Bikes Festival, Gough Park, in Silver City, New Mexico.

This workshop is hosted by Seedboat Center for the Arts & Gallery 214 W. Yankie St. Guests will be treated to a brief history of the DDBB and New Orleans musical traditions, sprinkled with sweet musical interludes. This event is FREE, but you must reserve your free ticket in advance.  Seating is limited to 50!

To describe how the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has arrived at its 35th Anniversary, trumpet player Gregory Davis employs a tried and true New Orleans-centric analogy: “It ends up being like a pot of gumbo – you drop in a little okra, drop in a little shrimp, you drop in some crabs. Before you know it, you’ve mixed in all these different ingredients and you’ve got a beautiful soup. That was our approach to music early on and it still is today.”

“As we continue to do live shows,” Davis concludes, “the challenge is still going to be, how am I going to entertain these people that are in front of me tonight? You have to make that happen at the moment, and that’s what we do best.”

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to experience one of New Orleans’ great bands.  For additional information and to reserve your FREE ticket contact MRAC, located in the Wells Fargo Bank building, 1201 Pope St. Tue-Fri, 9-4, or visit our website at: www.mimbresarts.org, like us on Facebook at facebook.com/mimbresarts.org, or call 575.538.2505.
