The Gila National Forest has partnered with OnCell to launch a mobile app that will allow visitors to take a self-guided tour of the natural and heritage sites within the forest using their personal mobile devices. The app also serves as a communication tool and allows the forest staff to deliver the latest information and news, in addition to allowing visitors to take a self-guided tour of the natural and heritage sites within the forest using their personal mobile devices. The Corporation for Downtown Development, doing business as Silver City Mainstreet has been selected by the New Mexico Department of Tourism to be an applicant for Cycle 1 of the Rural Pathway Project. The purpose of the Rural Pathway Project is to assist tourism stakeholders within New Mexico in developing profitable tourism-products by providing the necessary tools, resources, and support. Through strategic programming specific to the needs of New Mexico’s diverse tourism industry, the Rural Pathway Project aims to support local stakeholders in developing existing assets into successful tourism-products that fully embody the New Mexico True Brand Promise to deliver adventure steeped in culture. A Steering Committee representing the Corporation for Downtown Development will be attending a series of workshops to develop a project concept in order to submit a final plan for up to $50,000 in funding.

Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) was recently recognized and applauded by the New Mexico Immunization Coalition (NMIC) and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) for achieving a childhood immunization rate of over 90%. “Achieving this goal and being recognized for it by both the NMIC and the NMDOH confirms that we at HMS, are accomplishing great things together,” stated Dan Otero, HMS Chief Executive Officer. “The HMS Medical Services team-based approach to deliver comprehensive and integrated services, including childhood immunizations, starts with the leadership of our highly-qualified nurses and medical assistants,” added Darrick Nelson, MD, HMS Chief Medical Officer and Family Medicine Residency Program Director.” Please visit www.hmsnm.org to learn more about HMS services, providers, and locations, including childhood and adolescent immunizations.

Members of the Cobre School District have voted in favor of passing a General Obligation Bond that will release $7 million at the disposal of Cobre Schools. The first draw in funding in the amount of $3.5 million could be released in October, with the remaining $3.5 million to be accessible in two years. Some of the projects to be addressed are, well water at San Lorenzo Elementary, a new roof on the administration building, playground upgrades at elementary schools, parking lot improvements, track and gym upgrades, and varied football field improvements. Other important items on the list include electronic equipment for classrooms and technological infrastructure upgrades. The tax increase will assess $1.58 per $1000 of home values within the district.
