Golden Dragon Acrobats from China to Perform in Silver City
The Mimbres Region Arts Council is pleased to bring the Golden Dragon Acrobats to the WNMU Fine Arts Center Theatre in Silver City for a two-hour dance, theater and music extravaganza. The program will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013.
The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time honored tradition dating back 25 centuries. World renowned impresario Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and exhilarating theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. Using everyday objects such as plates, jars and bowls, these acrobats promise to astound viewers of all ages.
Highlights of the Golden Dragon Chinese Acrobats show include such physical feats as the signature “Thousand Hands Dance,” umbrella juggling, and air floating, all of which test the boundaries of physical strength against gravity in a most subtle manner.
“The company from Xian, China delivers beautifully choreographed routines showcasing their amazing skills and physicality, accompanied by a musical score of traditional Chinese music filtered through a New Age sensibility.” —New York Post
Contemporary theatrical techniques, set against ancient choreography, bring to life the ornate and mysterious Chinese culture. The music and lighting build a sense of danger, pulling the audience ever closer to the edge of their seats as performers take greater and greater risks.
