Silver Consolidated Schools will be having a Mental Health session, “Building your Child’s Confidence” this evening, January 10th at 6:00 p.m. The session will focus on helping parents learn strategies to help children develop a confident and healthy identity. Students from the Dream Makers Health Careers Program and Teen Academy for Health Sciences in Grant County recently received tours of local health care facilities in the area. Students were able to participate in hands-on labs and learn the ins-and-outs from health care experts. The program helps teach students about the benefits of being a healthcare professional and the important role health care workers play in the community.
The Luna County Commission is scheduled to take public comments regarding the Mimbres Peaks National Monument during its Work Session meeting tomorrow, January 11th. The meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Mimbres Valley Learning Center, located at 2300 East Pine Street in Deming. The public is encouraged to attend.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for their “Best of Hidalgo 2023” Awards Ceremony. These nominations allow individuals, businesses and organizations to be recognized for their hard work and dedication over the past year. There will be 7 categories up for nominations including Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year, Outstanding Chamber Member Award, Outstanding Community Organization and the “Beating Heart” Award. The New Mexico Public Education Department has been awarded a five-year federal grant for $8,000,000 for New Mexico Residencies program, a statewide initiative to provide aspiring teachers with a year of co-teaching alongside an accomplished mentor teacher. The grant will provide much-needed research, infrastructure and implementation support for New Mexico Residencies and will help strengthen the teacher recruitment and selection process, build consistency across residencies to ensure equitable access to well-prepared teachers and create sustainable funding streams with competitive wages. The New Mexico Residencies program is part of an ongoing effort to increase teacher recruitment and retention across the state.
