The Silver City Public Library will be hosting a free screening of the PBS American Experience documentary “Freedom Riders” and will have guest speaker Reverend Ross who was active in the civil liberty issues during that time. The movie will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 515 West College Avenue and is open to the public. 

As a reminder, The nonprofit organization Grant County College Bound is hosting “College Prep Lunch and Learns” every Tuesday at Silver High School in room 209 during the lunch hour. These sessions are to help students who are planning on attending college by providing them with the tools necessary to prepare for, enroll in and get accepted into a college or university through tutoring, mentoring and enrichment activities. The Animas Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department recently received a new 2024 International Pumper fire truck for their station. The truck was purchased with a grant written by the Animas Fire Chief Joe Fralie, with the New Mexico State Fire Protection Funds covering the rest of the cost. The fire truck, which is engine #22, will be located at Station 2 in the Windmill Subdivision. 

Grant County, with funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, has partnered with Santa Fe Community College to conduct a series of workforce development training sessions. These free educational trainings are available to all employers and individuals who are interested in working on their customer service skills. They will also show you how to deal with challenging situations and how to earn customers trust and confidence. The first session will take place in February and prior registration is required. The Silver City Gospel Mission would like to thank all of its volunteers, donors and partners for their support over the past year. Due to everyone’s unwavering support and dedication the mission was able to provide a Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner for those in need. They also were able to donate Christmas food boxes, toiletries, clothing and more during the holiday season.

The City of Deming has announced that The Deming Luna Mimbres Museum is under construction and is getting some much needed improvements. Renovations will begin this month and will occur over the next 3 to 4 months , therefore the museum is set to be closed until the Spring time. For more information, call 575-567-3928.
