The Luna County Commission is scheduled to hold its regular meeting tomorrow, February 13th at 10 a.m., following a work session at 9 a.m. The agenda will feature new business, including the discussion of several resolutions pertaining to ongoing county projects. Among these is Resolution 25-17, which seeks financial assistance for the Doña Ana Road Improvement Project, as well as a joint powers agreement with the City of Deming for the Rio Mimbres Golf Course. Additionally, Sheriff Deputies Nicholas Aguirre and Ceazar Chavez will take the oath of office, officially affirming their positions with the Luna County Sheriff’s Department.

The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Museum has been honored as this month’s Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce Member Spotlight. Committed to preserving the region’s history for future generations, the museum showcases a variety of exhibits donated by local citizens. These include displays on military history, mining artifacts, railroad history, the history of Lordsburg Airport, historic photographs, an extensive arrowhead collection, and more. The museum invites visitors to explore its rich offerings Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Outdoor Recreation Division announced the allocation of over $4 million in funding to 28 recipients across 13 counties in the third round of the FY25 Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant program. Notable projects receiving funding include the City of Deming, which will enhance Trees Lake; the Gila Chapter Back Country Horsemen of New Mexico, which aims to improve the equestrian experience in the Gila National Forest; Heart of the Gila, which will support the Gila River Trail Maintenance Project; and SPIRIT of Hidalgo, which will fund the construction of 12 horse stalls at the Hidalgo County Fairgrounds. The initiative seeks to stimulate local economies, create jobs, attract visitors, and improve the overall quality of life throughout New Mexico.
