The Silver Junior High FFA members recently excelled at the State Junior High Leadership Development Events, competing in a range of challenging events that tested their skills and leadership abilities. Members participated in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Quiz Bowl, and Creed, each demonstrating remarkable dedication and enthusiasm. A standout performance came from our Quiz Bowl team, who secured an impressive 3rd place finish in their semifinal round. Additionally, Lilyana Ortiz achieved a significant milestone by advancing to the final round of the Creed competition. Congratulations to all the students.  

Friends of the Volunteer Firefighters recently hosted an appreciation luncheon to honor several members of the Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire and Rescue for their outstanding service. The nonprofit recognized Ed Downard for his five years of dedicated leadership as Chief, and Lucy Whitmarsh for her 18 years of service, including ten as Chief and five as Assistant Chief. Steve White was acknowledged for his 14 years of active service, with five of those years as Cottage San Road Station Battalion Chief, while Rhonda Tapscott was honored for a decade of service, including her time as Cottage San Road Station Second Lieutenant. Ellen Cline received recognition for her 16 years of service, with 14 years spent as Treasurer, and Larry Ruben was celebrated for his years of service, including his time as Wagon Wheel Lane Station Battalion Chief before stepping down.

Housing New Mexico has introduced the Zero Interest Homebuilder Program (ZIHP) to tackle the shortage of affordable entry-level housing for low- and moderate-income homebuyers across the state. This innovative loan product, funded through the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund, provides interest-free construction financing to encourage the development of homes that are priced appropriately for the market. This new program’s intention is to promote the development and sale of entry-level homes that meet the needs of homebuyers in New Mexico.
