The Gila National Forest has announced that the Ridge Fire Trail closure has been lifted. Extreme caution is recommended when traveling through the recently burned areas. Standing dead trees that have been weakened by fire could fall at any time. Also, rocks and logs once held in place by surface vegetation may loosen and roll out. In celebration of Breastfeeding Awareness Week, Luna County Parents as Teachers will be having a free Breastfeeding Awareness class that will be centered around family wellbeing. The class will take place tomorrow, August 8th from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Deming Literacy Center. 

The Spirit of Hidalgo, Roadrunner Food Bank and Lordsburg Municipal Schools will be distributing 70,000 pounds of fresh produce to all Hidalgo County residents on Saturday, August 10th. The distributions will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lordsburg High School and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Animas Community Center. All Hidalgo County residents are invited to attend. 

This past summer Grant County recognized Grant County Detention Center officers Justin Gnader and Alexis Gholson received awards for their hard work and commitment. Justin was chosen as “Supervisor of the Year” for his three years of service and great leadership skills. Officer of the Year went to Alexis for her one year of service and for always going above and beyond to help out at the detention center. Thank you to both officers for your dedication and service to Grant County and the Detention Center.
