Silver City Preceptor Tau members continue to remain active in their community service projects as part of their Beta Sigma Phi chapter. This year, they have donated personal hygiene packets to Supporting People In Need (SPIN) and collected socks for the Gospel Mission. At their recent meeting, members also created Christmas cards to be mailed to the Holiday Card Challenge program, which distributes them to American warriors. Through these initiatives, the chapter hopes to make a positive impact in the community.

The Western New Mexico University School of Nursing and Kinesiology, in collaboration with Genoa Healthcare, will host a free flu vaccination clinic tomorrow, October 16th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the WNMU School of Nursing Building. The clinic will be open to students, staff, faculty, and community members. By providing free vaccinations, the university aims to enhance public health and protect individuals from the flu. 

Silver Consolidated Schools has announced that improvements to the field adjacent to the fairground at Cliff Schools are officially underway. With a generous $250,000 allocation from the Capital Outlay, the district is making significant strides in enhancing its facilities. The funding is being utilized for essential upgrades, including the installation of an irrigation system, seeding, sod installation, and the acquisition of other necessary equipment. Additionally, the Public Schools Finance Authority recently conducted a site visit at Cliff Schools in preparation for an upcoming presentation before the Public School Capital Outlay Council, where Cliff representatives will discuss the importance of securing additional funding to further improve the school. These enhancements represent a transformative step forward for all students, staff, and families.

Last Monday, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez visited Deming to present Luna County with a $500,000 check to support law enforcement efforts. The county plans to use these funds to acquire a new mobile command center vehicle, which will significantly enhance communication with officers in the field. This command center, designed to house dispatchers, will ensure seamless coordination during operations. The investment reflects a commitment to improving safety and efficiency in law enforcement throughout the region.
