The Silver High School Golf Team recently competed in the RISD 2 Day Invitational that took place last week, where they brought home the championship. The team, led by top players Jake Alcorta, Uriah Gonzales and Allen Mehling were able to show off their skills earning the first place championship trophy. Jake Alcorta also took home third place as an individual player. Congratulations to all team members.
In support of Earth Day and the Continental Divide Trails Days events that took place this weekend at Gough Park, “Kids Vote!” held a contest for “Cutest Gila Baby”. Children were taught the basic steps to voting responsibly such as: meeting requirements, registration, learning about the candidates and how to cast their ballots correctly. There were 59 votes all together with The Mexican Gray Wolf receiving 28 votes, the Gray Fox Kit receiving 20 votes and the Raven Chick receiving 11 votes. The contest gave kids the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the voting process and how voting can help make a difference.
The Grant County Community Partnership for Children (CPC) in Grant County now has a new resource, “Empowering Families, Nurturing Children”, to help provide the best possible parent education to the community. CPC along with their Family Leadership Team will be using this new resource to help provide parents with tools, resources and the support they need to raise confident, resilient kids. The Village of Columbus recently celebrated Earth Day by transforming the Plaza in Downtown Columbus into a hub of sustainability and community spirit. This event, which was sponsored by the Village of Columbus Chamber of Commerce, had a variety of activities that gave participants a chance to give away their recycled items, listen to live music and explore a tiny home demonstration, which showcased sustainable living solutions. The mantra of the event was “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and to foster a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.

Luna County will be having their Luna County Citizens College Meeting, which will focus on public emergency communications, on April 25th at 5:30 p.m. at the Luna County Courthouse. They will be discussing “Next Generation 911” which is aimed to improve public emergency communications and update the 911 service infrastructure in Luna County. Residents of Luna County are encouraged to attend.
