Congratulations to Western New Mexico University Golf Coach Kent Beatty who earned the “Coach of the Year” award for his 26 years of hard work and dedication as a coach. Since being named head coach in 1997, both the men and women’s golf teams are regular participants in the postseason, an accomplishment that has been instrumental in giving WNMU’s other athletic programs the confidence to succeed. This year, he led the number 30-ranked Mustang golf team to the “Time Tierney Pioneer Shootout” victory and three Top-3 finishes.

Last in our News: Members of the Explore Hidalgo County Outdoors Coalition came together earlier this month to celebrate the new designation of Hidalgo County as a Continental Divide Trail Gateway Community. The county held a “Get Outside” event with a ceremony, ribbon cutting and reception where community members and county employees gathered together to celebrate the County’s accomplishment. Hidalgo County joins just 20 cities and one other county who are Gateway Communities along the 3,100 mile trail that spans five states from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.
