Meridian Contracting, Inc., is now in its final stages of completing The New Mexico 26 Bridge Rehabilitation project. Although the project is near its completion, reduced speed limits will remain in place due to the replacement of a rubber strip on the bridge joint. A flagging operation will be in effect during this process to help ensure safe traffic flow. All lanes on the “Hatch Highway” are set to be open and available for commuters to travel on within the week.
The Silver City Food Co-op will be donating their April funds from their “Round Up” program to the Gila Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen. The organization helps perpetuate the recreational use of horses on public lands for all, including horseback riders, hikers, hunters, fishermen, mountain bikers and other recreational users of the Gila National Forest.
During their recent meeting, The Bayard City Council approved a proclamation declaring April “Sexual Assault Awareness Month”. Speakers from the nonprofit organization, Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) attended the meeting to discuss the importance of recognizing sexual assault and supporting survivors and families. The City of Deming in collaboration with Deming Luna County Economic Development will be hosting their 2nd Annual “Public Safety Block Party” to show appreciation to the first responders who work to keep the community safe. Attendees of all ages are invited to participate in an assortment of interactive activities planned and to recognize different agencies’ significant roles in the local community. The block party will take place on April 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Trees Lake and is free and open to the public.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Cruces District Office is seeking public input on its draft business plan to modify existing fees at the Three Rivers Petroglyph. The district is proposing to increase fees for day-use, campground and group facilities to help meet the growing maintenance needs due to increased visitation and operating costs of the site. The new proposed fees will enable the BLM to improve services, add amenities desired by visitors and help ensure the site remains a place the public can be proud of for years to come.
