The Western New Mexico University Museum has expanded its permanent collection through a transfer of artifacts from the Museum of Northern Arizona. The acquisition includes Casas Grandes pottery, pre-Hispanic Madera Black-on-red vessels, and Indigenous Mexican cultural items, strengthening areas of the museum’s collection that were previously underrepresented. Many of the objects will be made available to the public as the museum has launched an online catalog to improve public access while ensuring culturally sensitive items remain protected.
The Village of Columbus is asking residents and businesses to conserve water while one of its water storage tanks undergoes rehabilitation, a project expected to take about 60 days. The work is intended to improve the safety, reliability and long-term efficiency of the community’s water system. With water storage capacity reduced during construction, officials are encouraging residents to limit water use by taking shorter showers, fixing leaks, reducing outdoor watering, avoiding pool filling and unnecessary vehicle washing, and running dishwashers only when full.
