The Youth Mural Program (YMP) and Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) have completed several public art projects across Silver City, including the restoration of a tile mural at the corner of Arizona and Broadway. Students also helped finish a new downtown mural on Yankie Street and created the first of five mural panels planned for the Kelly Street entrance to Big Ditch Park. The projects are part of ongoing efforts to beautify public spaces while providing hands-on arts and conservation experience for local youth.
The Jacob Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Silver City Rotary Club are inviting the public to attend the America 250! Liberty Tree dedication at noon on June 27 at the Silver City Visitor Center. The ceremony will honor the historic Liberty Trees that served as gathering places and symbols of freedom for the Sons of Liberty in the years leading up to the American Revolution. While the original trees no longer exist, modern Liberty Trees planted across the country continue to symbolize the enduring values of liberty, patriotism, and civic responsibility.
The Village of Columbus is seeking community members to help address a growing problem with dogs running loose throughout the village. The issue is posing safety risks to residents, visitors and pets, and can lead to traffic hazards, property damage and injuries. The mayor is forming a citizen committee to discuss the problem, explore solutions and make recommendations aimed at improving animal control and responsible pet ownership in the community. Local officials are advancing improvements at Lordsburg Municipal Airport through two major infrastructure projects focused on long-term planning and enhanced security. A comprehensive Airport Master Plan has been launched to assess aviation needs over the next 20 years, update key planning documents, and finalize an airport property map. In addition, the airport is moving forward with construction of perimeter fencing and an electric gate system to improve safety and strengthen access control. Together, these projects are intended to enhance operational security, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the airport’s future growth and long-term sustainability.
