The High Desert Humane Society in Silver City will be having their monthly reduced rate rabies vaccination clinic this Saturday, October 14th. They will be offering a wide variety of vaccines including one or two year rabies vaccines for cats and dogs, four way combo vaccines, Canine Bordetella for kennel cough, microchipping and more. This will be a drive through clinic and will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
The Silver City Watershed Keepers and Stream Dynamics will be offering a Rainwater Harvesting Workshop and Bike Tour on Saturday, October 21st. Members of Stream Dynamics and Green Energy Now will be presenting the basics of rainwater harvesting and erosion control to help provide beginning harvesters with tools to help harvest and employ techniques that will reduce groundwater use and improve water quality in our region. The workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon with the bike tour following from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event is free but prior registration is required. The Silver City Food Co-op recently donated the October funds from their “Round Up Program” to the non-profit organization Supporting People In Need (SPIN). The “Round Up Program” is a community donation program where customers can contribute the balance of their total purchase to the nearest dollar to donate to a local non-profit organization. The funds donated to SPIN will be used to help provide hot meals and assistance to those who are struggling with homelessness and mental illness.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which helps children who have been abused and neglected, is in need of volunteers for their program in the Grant County area. The goal of CASA is to provide advocacy and support through the use of trained volunteers in order to ensure that children involved in the court system have a voice. Volunteers will have the opportunity to play an integral role and lend their voice to help protect children who have been abused and neglected in Grant County and surrounding areas. “We Work for Health”, an organization that focuses on health and the wellbeing of patients, recently awarded Deming High School a $3,000 STEM Talent Educational Pipeline grant to help support its career technical education program. The program, which specializes in health care sciences, provides Deming High School students nursing assistant skills and teaches them basic healthcare knowledge. The funds from the STEM grant will be used to help pay for Deming High School student’s nurse certification exam so they can become Certified Nursing Assistants.
