PNM has updated the Cliff substation that could improve reliability and enhance service to customers in the area. The substation which serves approximately 500 residents, has been experiencing reliability issues that can be related to aging equipment. The old equipment in this substation was 100% replaced and PNM used enclosed skids because of the remote location of this facility, which will help better protect the equipment and keep animals out, a common cause of damage and power outages. The upgraded substation now has redundancy, which means if this substation experiences an outage for any reason, PNM has the ability to reroute power within the facility to minimize the time customers could experience an outage while crews work on any needed repairs. These upgrades will also allow the substation to have enhanced information-sharing capabilities with the PNM Distribution Operations Center, which monitors the entire PNM distribution system 24/7/365 from Albuquerque.

The State Office of the Bureau of Land Management is reminding visitors that fireworks are prohibited on BLM managed lands throughout the state according to a fire prevention order that took effect today and will expire on December 31st. A violation of this order is subject to punishment by a fine of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment of not more than 12 months or both.  Anyone violating this order will be liable to the United States for damages through either an administrative process or in United States federal court. Despite recent rains and moisture, the fire danger created by severe drought has not been alleviated.
