Effective today, July 1st, all pandemic related occupancy restrictions on all forms of commercial activity in the state of New Mexico have been lifted. According to Department of Health data, as of Tuesday, 62% of New Mexicans have completed their COVID-19 vaccination series and near 71% of eligible individuals have received at least one dose. In addition, all limitations on mass gatherings have been lifted and businesses, large events and organizations may operate at 100 percent of maximum capacity, whether indoor or outdoor. In addition, parents of children 12 to 15 years of age are encouraged to register their child for the approved Pfizer vaccine at vaccineNM.org

The Independence Day Parade and Freedom Festival is being held this Saturday, July 3rd on Gough Park and Downtown Silver City. This All-Day-Into-the-Evening event is hosted by the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce and PNM and features a parade, food, booths, and fun at Gough Park, and more music and special festivities in Downtown Silver City. The Kiwanis Club of Silver City will start serving up their Pancake Breakfast at 8:00 A.M. in Gough Park followed by their BBQ Beef Lunch at 11:00 A.M. after the parade. A Flag Raising Ceremony will be at Gough Park, 9:00 A.M. and will once again be alive with a variety of booths and vendors following the parade that is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Silver City MainStreet is hosting a Local Love campaign with many downtown shops and the Silver City Museum will have their annual Ice Cream Social from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. There will be live music, ice cream and other vendors, and a special sidewalk art activity. The Gila National Forest will be migrating from the current Point of Sales System to a new E-Collections Retail System beginning today, July 1st. All six ranger stations will be unable to sell forest products on Tuesday, July 6th and Wednesday, July 7th while the collections officers undergo a two-day online training on the new retail system.  During this transition process, the purchase America the Beautiful passes and maps of National Forest System lands can be made on-line at the USGS Store located at
