The Children’s Water Festival just celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. The Festival first started in 2003 and has been coordinated by different organizations over the years. The Upper Gila Watershed Alliance took over coordinating the event in 2016 which allowed students from Silver City, Cobre, Lordsburg and Deming School Districts to participate in the festival. In May, over 400 students went to the Gila River to explore riparian trees, learn about distinguishing between skulls of carnivores and herbivores, and so much more. The Watershed Alliance hopes to continue the Festival tradition in the years to come.
