Pick it Up-Toss No Mas would like to thank all the volunteers that came out and made the “Earth Day” Community Cleanup event such a great success. There were 31 individuals and 6 teams that volunteered their time and efforts to help clean up Grant County. Over 938 pounds of trash and debris were collected from the Big Ditch Park, Highway 180, San Vicente Creek, PA Creek, Penny Park and College Street. The winners of the most trash collected were Loren Poole and team Bridge to Ridge.

Looking for something to do this summer? Gila Regional Medical Center’s Beginning Years Program is sponsoring “Family Matinees” from May 1st until July 31st. The movies will be shown on Wednesdays at 2:45 p.m. and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. at the Silco Theater in Downtown Silver City. All movies are free and open to all community members. 

The Santa Clara Volunteer Fire Department is now accepting applications for new members who are interested in being part of their team. The department is looking for hardworking, motivated individuals who are interested in volunteering their time and learning more about the Santa Clara Fire Department. Applications can be picked up at the Village of Santa Clara City Hall, located at 516 Fort Bayard Street. 

Come join the Grant County Community Foundation and the Give Grandly Coalition for their Give Grandly fundraiser this Saturday, May 4th. Give Grandly is a powerful and dynamic event that connects donors to Catron, Grant, Hidalgo and Luna communities and the causes they believe in. This event will allow nonprofits in Grant County to connect directly with donors and showcase the work they do for the communities. Community members and sponsors came together this past weekend at Maverick Stadium to participate in the first annual Hidalgo County Cancer Walk, which included guest speakers, luminarias, a t-shirt contest and a closing prayer. Nineteen teams took the field to celebrate cancer survivors and to help raise awareness about the disease. Over 218 team members, sponsors and vendors raised nearly $24,000 to help local citizens battling cancer with cancer-related expenses such as travel, lodging, co-pays and food.
