The Silco Theatre in Silver City will be closed for approximately 60 days for renovations aimed at expanding its use as both a movie theater and a live performance venue. The project includes stage upgrades, a retractable movie screen, new curtains, stage lighting infrastructure, improved accessibility, and replacement of the aging stage floor. The renovations are funded through a $175,000 state capital outlay allocation and a $100,000 grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Creative Industries Division. The improvements will help ensure the long-term sustainability of the 103-year-old community landmark.

The Cobre Consolidated School District community is celebrating a historic achievement after all four of its elementary campuses—Bayard Elementary School, Central Elementary School, Hurley Elementary School, and San Lorenzo Elementary School—were officially recognized as Model Schools by the New Mexico Public Education Department. This distinction places Cobre as the only school district in New Mexico to have every one of its elementary schools earn this prestigious designation. District leaders credit the achievement to the dedication of teachers, staff, students, and families whose hard work and commitment have helped create a strong and successful learning environment across all campuses.
