The New Mexico Human Services Department has submitted a five-year renewal application for the state’s Medicaid program to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services under the new Medicaid name Turquoise Care. According to a news release, “the state’s Medicaid 1115 demonstration waiver is set to expire on December 31, 2023, and the state is required to submit a renewal application to CMS twelve months prior to expiration.” David R. Scrase, M.D., cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department, states that the renewal seeks to simplify and improve member experience, with the ultimate goal of achieving improved health outcomes and well-being for the 980,931 New Mexicans currently on Medicaid. The renewal application is for an effective date of January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2028.

Youth from Grant County Elite Wrestling along with head coach Daniel Gomez, Sr recently captured the team title at the “Edge of Texas Nationals” in El Paso. The team of 37 wrestlers scored 715.5 points to win the championship. Congratulations to Grant County Elite Wrestling!

In Deming news, Cancer Support of Deming and Luna County Inc. is in need of senior volunteers to serve as drivers for patients that require transportation for out-of-town medical appointments and procedures. Volunteer drivers have been provided by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) through the Deming Luna County Senior Center and local chapter of the Commission on Aging. In addition, volunteer drivers are needed for the senior center’s home-delivered meals program that brings hot lunches to 230 seniors in the community. Cancer Support is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization 100% funded by donations from the community. All services and programs are provided free of charge and have no financial requirements to qualify.
