Here’s a look at some local news:
Mayor Richard Bauch, of Santa Clara, has announced that Viola Stone Park will be closed for two weeks due to a construction project taking place on Bayard Street. In addition, the “Movies in the Park” schedule has now ended for the season. The Mayor also thanked the individuals that donated or offered to donate movie screens to replace the one stolen several weeks ago.
Secretary for Rural Development Acting Assistant, Joel Baxley, has announced that the USDA is seeking applications for grants to promote rural economic development and job creation projects. The USDA’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program provides grants to eligible applicants under the Rural Electrification Act of 1936. According to a release, the grants can be utilized for the following: “business startups or expansion; business incubators; technical assistance feasibility studies; advanced telecommunications services and computer networks for medical, educational, and job training services; and community facilities projects for economic development.”
Deming’s Great American Duck Race will be celebrating its 40th year when it kicks off on August 22nd through 24th. Besides the duck race events, there is an annual Tournament of Duck parade. The Duck Race Committee has announced that Deming resident and businessman, Rick Holdridge, will be honored as Parade Grand Marshall. Mr. Holdridge has been doing business for many years in Deming after serving 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. This year’s theme is “Racing Through the Stars.”
The Office of the Grant County Clerk will be closed Monday, August 5th through Wednesday, August 7th. The Grant County Clerk’s Office staff will be attending the 2019 Local Election School. The office will resume regular business hours on Thursday, August 8th.
