The 2nd Annual Kiwanis Free Easter Egg Hunt is planned for Saturday, April 4, at Silver City’s Penny Park. Due to the overwhelming success of last year’s event, the number of eggs has been doubled to 2000+ this year. The hunts are scheduled throughout the morning according to age groups. Ages 12 and over will have their hunt at 9 a.m.; ages 10-11 at 9:30; ages 8-9 at 10:00; ages 6-7 at 10:30; ages 4-5 at 11:00; ages 3 and under at 11:30. Children are asked to register for their hunts 30 minutes prior to hunt time.
In addition to the plastic eggs filled with candy, there will be prize eggs for special gifts. There will a table for face-painting, free children’s books, and even the opportunity to make a clay tile for a new Silver City mural. And to greet the children again this year is that very special guest, the Kiwanis giant Easter Bunny. For those who would like to take home a photo, FeVa Fotos will again be taking photos of children or families with the Easter Bunny for a $5 donation to go to Kiwanis youth projects.
This event could not happen without the contributions of a lot of local businesses and groups. Kiwanis would like to thank Ace Hardware and Walmart for their major contributions of the plastic eggs and candy to fill the eggs. Also recognition to Kiwanis CKI member Robert Pack who, through a grant that he earned as the 2014-15 National Youth Ambassador(NCAM-National Child Awareness Month), is providing over 250 new books to younger children who register for the hunt. A big thank you also goes to Walgreens, Hester House, Kris’s Unique Boutique, Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, WNMU CKI, Imagination Library, Silver City Radio, and Diana Ingalls Leyba’s mural project for their generous contributions of gifts and services to make the 2015 Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt a success.
