Last night on U.S Highway 90, mile marker 26 in White Signal, a two-vehicle collision occurred during a hard rain, according to the Grant County Beat. The vehicles involved were an approximate 2012 Ford pickup truck and a New Mexico State Police Ford Explorer. A local family rendered aid to the drivers along with a U.S. Border Patrol Officer, until Grant County Sheriff’s Officers, Tyrone Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and an ambulance arrived at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
The Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Deming Walmart Supercenter and has begun an online grocery pickup service. The store has arranged for a dedicated pickup parking on the east side of the store. The service is available from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., seven days a week.
The Village of Santa Clara Trustees have unanimously passed a Resolution for the Village of Santa Clara to enter into a 99-Year Lease with the State of New Mexico Facility Management Division of the General Services Department. This lease will enable the Village to sub-lease space to other users and host events at the Fort Bayard historic site.
Grant County Assessor, Raul Turrieta, has been appointed to serve on the Tax & Revenue Policy Committee by Mark Cage, President of New Mexico Counties. According to a release, the Tax & Revenue Policy Committee addresses major tax and revenue issues facing county government with particular emphasis placed on possible legislative initiatives; Major issues include GRT reform efforts, ensuring that county revenues are adequate to meet county government needs, and other financial issues affecting county and tribal government, like, taxation, assessment, budgets, audits, capital outlay, procurement, county revenue, distribution, and expenses.
