Here’s a look at some local news:
Deming’s Red Mountain Middle School’s Dream Makers Club visited members of the Elite Medical Transport staff and learned about emergency services and transportation as a possible career path. Dream Markers is a free club for 7th and 8th grade students that teaches the limitless possibilities in health careers to youth. The club is sponsored by Forward NM, a program of Southwest Center for Health Innovation.
Advanced Air, that will begin providing “Essential Air Service” from the Grant County Airport in January, will hold a press conference tomorrow morning at 9:00 am in the main lobby of the Grant County Veteran’s Memorial Business and Conference Center. Residents will have the opportunity to meet company officials and hear Advanced Air’s plans for a smooth transition from the current airline providing service to Grant County Boutique Air. Members of the local press and the general public are invited to attend. The conference center is located at 3031 Highway 180 East in Silver City.
Some local election results have been reported by the New Mexico Secretary of State with a record number of voters casting their ballots for the 2018 General Election. Some of the Grant County unofficial winners are: Chris Ponce for County Commissioner District 1; Javier Salas for Grant County Commissioner District 2; Raul Turrieta for Grant County Assessor; Frank Gomez for Grant County Sheriff; and Mary Ann Sedillo for Probate Judge. The Grant County General Obligation Bonds passed for remodeling and additions in addition to road construction and repair bonds.
In Luna County, the unofficial winners are: Barbara Reedy for County Commissioner District 1; Linda Smrkovsky for County Commissioner District 2; Michelle Martinez Holguin for County Assessor; Kelly Gannaway for Luna County Sheriff; and Diana May Diaz for Probate Judge.
The Town of Silver City is announcing that water will be turned off due to a tie-in of a new water main on Thursday, November 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The areas that will be affected by this water outage are as follows: Pinos Altos Road from Pine Street to Trapper Road and on Pine Street from Swarthmore to Pinos Altos Road. In addition, other affected areas are: Ranch Club Road; Thomas Lane; Cantada Mobile Home Park; Katheryne Circle; and Cecilia Street.
