In honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, Grant County is recognizing the dedicated professionals of the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority, whose voices are often the first lifeline in moments of crisis. These public safety telecommunicators work tirelessly behind the scenes, delivering critical information to first responders while providing calm, compassionate support to those in need. Their unwavering professionalism, quick thinking, and commitment to service play a vital role in protecting the community each and every day.

The New Mexico Environment Department and the New Mexico Department of Health will offer up to 100 free water tests on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Silver City Farmers Market for private well users in Grant County and surrounding areas. Testing will include pH, electrical conductivity, nitrate, iron, sulfate, fluoride, and arsenic. Residents are advised to collect samples in a clean, odor-free container of at least one quart, allow water to run for 2–3 minutes before sampling, and, if possible, gather water prior to any filtration systems as close to the testing time as possible.

The City of Deming announced the launch of its “Vial of Life” Program, in partnership with the local Rotary Club and public safety departments. The initiative is designed to improve emergency medical response and preparedness, especially for seniors and individuals with chronic conditions. Residents complete a form detailing medical history, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts, which is placed in a clear bag on the refrigerator, while decals on the home alert first responders to the information’s location.
