This month, a new greenhouse is expected to arrive on the Western New Mexico University campus, serving as the centerpiece of a garden being developed on a designated plot at the WNMU Silver City campus. Following the greenhouse installation, the new Director of Food Security and Sustainability will prioritize the creation of raised garden boxes and hoop houses. Consistent with the director’s previous projects, the new center will serve as a dual initiative focused on education and food production. The Director has also begun reaching out to faculty to discuss integrating food security and sustainability into their academic programs, hoping that the gardens will become a site for experimentation and learning.
The Silver City Food Co-op will be donating the funds raised through their October “Round Up” program to Silver City’s Youth Murals Program. This visually dynamic program engages young people, teaching them about the history and culture of the community while beautifying the area with artistic murals. The collaboration aims to foster creativity and a sense of pride among participants, enhancing the cultural landscape of Silver City.

Additionally, maintenance efforts on Sawmill Wagon Road Trail #243 and Little Cherry Creek Trail #241 focused on 1.5 miles of trail northbound from Little Cherry Creek.
