During the Bayard City Council meeting, the community engagement coordinator from the National Center for Frontier Communities provided an update on the community garden and greenhouse training center. The center, in collaboration with The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability, is exploring joint design plans for the space, which will feature a “choose-your-own” food pantry operated by The Commons. In addition to this initiative, the organization has been hosting a variety of community programs, including the “Journey Through the Food System” educational event at local elementary schools, cooking classes, and gardening workshops.

Luna County has enhanced its emergency response capabilities with the purchase of a 2024 Ford F550 4×4 ambulance, funded through Ambulance Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) revenues. The new unit will be stationed in the Village of Columbus to support Columbus EMS operations. Columbus EMS serves not only the village itself but also provides critical emergency medical coverage along Highway 9, both east and west, and north along Highway 11. This addition reinforces the county’s commitment to public safety and strengthens the partnership between Columbus EMS and Luna County in delivering timely and effective emergency medical services.
