The Town of Hurley held its regular meeting to review recently completed projects as well as those still in progress. Updates included quality-of-life park improvements for the Big Muddy, where soil testing is underway to ensure plants will thrive on the property. The design work for Anza Street and Third Street has been completed, and the lift station is now fully operational. The Department of Transportation’s chip seal project on Carrasco Street and First Street was also highlighted. Additionally, improvements to Well Five have been tested and closed out, and lightning protection measures for Wells Eleven and Seven have been successfully completed.
For the first time in 14 years, Columbus is preparing to reestablish its own police department, presenting a rare opportunity to design a modern force from the ground up. The initiative allows the city to shape policies, recruit officers and staff, and set the department’s culture and direction in close collaboration with the community. With the launch of the Columbus Police Department, the city aims not only to enhance public safety but also to strengthen partnerships with county, state, and federal agencies.
The Town of Silver City’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hold its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, October 7, at 6:00 p.m. in the Grant County Administration Building. The agenda includes action items such as a request for recommendation on various amendments to certain provisions of the Land Use and Zoning Code of 2010, along with updating its title to the Land Use and Zoning Code of 2025 for submission to the Town Council. Additional items include approval or disapproval of a request from the town attorney regarding an amendment to Section 6.1.1 of the Land Use and Zoning Code, as well as community input, public hearings, staff reports, and commission reports.

Organizations that support creative industries across New Mexico are now eligible to apply for new grant funding of up to $62,500, aimed at strengthening the state’s expanding creative economy through the Creative Support Organization Grant Program. The program supports efforts such as technical assistance, business incubation, workforce development, ecosystem and network building, and strategies to expand creative industry opportunities. Eligible applicants include Nations, Tribes, Pueblos, nonprofits, and for-profit organizations with at least three years of demonstrated experience supporting creative companies, entrepreneurs, or workers.
