U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez will host an Immigration and Border Security Town Hall in Deming this evening, May 27 at 6 p.m. at 2301 S. Tin Street. The town hall is intended to provide residents with an opportunity to engage directly with Representative Vasquez regarding issues impacting the border region and surrounding communities. Community members are invited to attend the event to ask questions and receive updates on immigration and border security efforts and legislation.
Hidalgo Medical Services has announced the upcoming launch of Vision Services at its clinics in Lordsburg and Silver City, expanding access to optometry care for residents in Hidalgo and Grant counties. The new services will include comprehensive eye exams, screenings and specialized testing provided through a combination of in-person clinic staff and secure telehealth technology connecting patients with licensed optometrists. The expansion is designed to help reduce transportation and geographic barriers to routine eye care in rural communities while strengthening the organization’s integrated medical, dental and behavioral health care model.
The Hurley Town Council reviewed the proposed 2026–2027 budget during a workshop, including departmental funding requests for the police department such as pay and clothing allowance increases. Council members approved the intent to adopt Animal Ordinance 11-L, which would establish guidelines for managing feral and community cats using a trap, neuter and release model similar to programs used in other New Mexico communities. The ordinance will remain open for public review for one month before final consideration at the next meeting.
