Two Silver Consolidated School Students were recently recognized by the New Mexico Activities Association Foundation for their exceptional contributions and dedication. Dace Begay, who is a student at Silver High School was awarded the Gary Tripp NMAA Extraordinary Participation $2,000 Scholarship that honors students who exemplify outstanding participation in school activities beyond athletics, showcasing leadership, community service and academic excellence. Cliff High School student Noah Bratcher was honored with the Mario Martinez Memorial NMAA Extraordinary Participation Scholarship, which pays tribute to students who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to their communities and schools, embodying the spirit of excellence and resilience. Congratulations to both students. 

Aldo Leopold Charter School’s 10th grade class recently visited the southern border and low desert county as part of the school’s annual trip. Students were able to visit a variety of different locations including, the US Border Patrol station in Nogales, the People Helping People Educational Office, area public lands, Oak Flat Indigenous Rights Encampment and a Shrine for Migrants on the International Border. During these visits, students had the opportunity to experience international border issues and indigenous rights movements as well as discuss the displacement and movement of people over the course of globalized human history. 

The Grant County Chamber of Commerce is inviting all community members to join them at their March Luncheon where they will have guest speaker Julie Halbig, Director of Compliance and Initiatives at the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority. Julia will be discussing “All Things Housing and Low and Moderate Income New Mexicans”. The luncheon will take place tomorrow, March 7th  from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. The Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation and the New Mexico Office of Substance Abuse Prevention is conducting a community survey to get a better understanding of the substance abuse issues across New Mexico. The New Mexico Office of Substance Abuse Prevention is asking all New Mexicans to take the survey to help them better respond to the problems and areas of most concern. Those who take the survey will be able to enter a weekly drawing for a $100 or one final drawing for a $500 cash prize.
