The Village of Santa Clara plans to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to continue restoring the historic Bradley Hotel, with the goal of transforming the 1890 adobe building into a community center for local residents. The board also approved a 4.6% increase in water and sewer rates to keep pace with rising operating costs, extended Stage 2 fire restrictions for an additional 30 days due to ongoing fire conditions, and adopted the village’s Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan. 

Luna County will serve as the administrative agency for $1.971 million in state behavioral health funding awarded to Region 6 through the first round of New Mexico’s Behavioral Health Reform and Investment Act. The funding will support the expansion of behavioral health services in Grant and Hidalgo counties while long-term regional plans are developed. Eligible projects include mental health care, substance use disorder treatment, crisis response, residential treatment, services for justice-involved individuals with addiction, and programs for pregnant and postpartum individuals affected by substance use. 

The Silver City Fire Department is reminding residents and visitors to celebrate July 4th responsibly by following all local fireworks regulations. Certain fireworks, including missile-type rockets and stick-type rockets, are prohibited within city limits, while approved consumer fireworks may be used only in accordance with state and local regulations. Silver City will celebrate Independence Day with a community fireworks show at 9 p.m. on July 4, at the top of Southwest Concrete & Paving.

The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division is accepting applications for the third funding cycle of the Cultural Properties Restoration Fund Grant Program. The program offers grants of up to $500,000 to help cities, counties, state agencies, universities, land grant associations, and other political subdivisions preserve culturally significant properties. Eligible projects include historic structures, archaeological sites, and other places or objects with cultural, scientific, or architectural importance. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on July 16, and may be submitted by visiting website.
