The Silver City Food Co-op will be donating the December funds from their “Round Up Program” to The Silver City Museum Society, a nonprofit organization that helps enhance museum programming and public services. The funds will go towards providing hardware resources for museum staff to utilize, such as field recording equipment and cataloging software as well as for future exhibit planning that will assist the museum in its mission to collect, preserve, and interpret area history. Cobre Consolidated School District is inviting the community to join them for their “Tree Lighting” event this Thursday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m. There will be hot cocoa, music, photos with Santa Clause and much more. The tree lighting will take place at Cobre High School and all community members are welcome.
Crews recently completed ignitions in the Meekins prescribed fire along Forest Road 150 in the Wilderness Ranger District this past week and have now begun ignitions on Gattons Park, which is along the south side of New Mexico Highway 35 and the Gomez North unit, which is along the east side of Little Walnut Road. Smoke will be heaviest immediately after ignitions and may be visible along New Mexico Highway 15, Little Walnut Road and in Santa Clara. All areas will be signed and posted for public awareness. The Annual Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” gift handout took place this weekend at the Santa Clara Armory, where gifts were handed out to children of all ages. This event, which is led and organized each year by Robert and Danna Lopez of the Gaffney-Oglesby Marine Corps Detachment 1328, came together with volunteers and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause to make sure that children who may not be able to afford gifts are not forgotten during the holiday season. Thanks to the generous donations of community members all over Grant County, more than 1,800 children were able to receive a gift for Christmas this year.
In Deming News: The City of Deming is inviting all community members to their “Town Hall” meeting to discuss and share input on future events for Deming. The meeting will take place this evening, December 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Deming City Hall located at 1275 East Pine Street.
