The Luna County Community Health Care Foundation recently demonstrated its continued commitment to community wellness with the presentation of two significant donations. A $3,000 contribution was awarded to the Deming Soccer Association to support the purchase of First Aid Kits and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), ensuring the safety and preparedness of players and spectators at local sporting events. In addition, the Foundation presented a generous $25,000 donation to Cancer Support of Deming & Luna County, Inc., reinforcing its dedication to providing vital resources and support for individuals and families affected by cancer.

The Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP) and its key partners will host a celebration marking the completion of the San Vicente Creek River Stewardship Project on October 25, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Big Ditch Park. This three-year initiative, funded by the New Mexico Environment Department’s River Stewardship Program, successfully restored riparian habitat along San Vicente Creek by removing more than 300 tons of non-native, invasive trees from 55 acres, thereby reducing fire risk and enhancing ecological health. To further protect water resources, the project stabilized the Town of Silver City’s main sewer line against erosion and constructed 75 water-harvesting features designed to improve the overall water quality in the region.

The Grant County Soil and Water Conservation District has announced a change to its October meeting schedule. The meeting will now be held on Monday, October 27 at 4:00 p.m. at the Grant County Extension Office, located at 2610 North Silver Street.
