The New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women will be hosting a free “Listening and Learning” event with local businesswomen tomorrow, December 1st from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Bessee-Forward Global Resource Center in Silver City. The panelists Brenda MacFarlane, Mishka Venegas and Val Weston are all business owners who will be giving advice to women who are interested in starting their own businesses. Santa Clara Volunteer Fire and Rescue Firefighters Alonso Romo and Angel Granadino were recently awarded certificates for their outstanding service and for showing what a true volunteer means. Congratulations to both firefighters and thank you for the service you provide to the Village of Santa Clara and all its community members. 

All those interested in sharing their vision and voice on how to make Catron, Luna and Hidalgo County a better place are invited to participate in the “ Community Assessment Survey” that is taking place now until Monday, December 4th. The survey will help update data by identifying the needs of the community by community members, which will provide vision to policy and funding recommendations. Also, the data will be available for everyone to use to build support for more funding for services and resources. The Lordsburg Volunteer Fire Department will be having their annual “Christmas Light” parade  and “Moonlight Madness” event tomorrow, December 1st. A BIG Congratulations to all the winners of the Lordsburg Economic Advancement Project’s (LEAP) first annual “Light-Up Lordsburg” event that took place this past weekend. Winners for best single-family residence went to Mercedes De Paoli and Miriam Jacquez. Best small business went to The Hidalgo County Herald and best corporate business went to Western Bank. All winners will be receiving a $50 cash prize. LEAP would like to thank everyone who participated and made this event a huge success.
