The Hummingbird Fire, which began on April 20 approximately 15 miles east of Glenwood, has grown to 5,650 acres and is 70 percent contained as of the morning of May 7. Officials reported that May 6 marked the final update from the Gila Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management Team with future updates being provided by the Gila National Forest. Fire managers noted that recent moisture contributed to increased containment, particularly along the southeast perimeter where the fire burned above Iron Creek within the 2024 Ridge Fire scar. Current operations include continued preparation along Bursum and Bearwallow Roads, supported by heavy equipment used to mulch debris created during suppression efforts.
