The Early College High School program in Deming will be accepting sixty 9th grade students for the 2024-2025 school year. The application process is open to any 9th grade student who exhibits a sincere interest in academics and is willing to work hard to meet the program’s expectations. The program was created by Deming Public Schools to provide a challenging academic program and to help students graduate with a head start on college and an Associate degree. Congratulations to Aldo Leopold Charter School student Dakota Montenegro who has been invited to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) of Advanced Medicine and Health Care at John Hopkins University this summer. She received an invitation due to her earning college credit while she attended the National Youth Leadership Forum last year. While attending the NYLF, Dakota will get the opportunity to get hands-on experience on how to measure vital signs, birthing procedures, complications during birth and more. She will also be able to work with nursing students to help her gain insights on topics related to health care.
The New Mexico Junior Livestock Foundation is now accepting applications for their 2024 Scholarship program. Applicants must be a high school senior in good standing, a current member of a New Mexico 4-H Club or FFA Chapter and must have applied and been accepted to any college, university or vocational school. As a reminder, The Rotary Club of Silver City is still accepting applications for their upcoming Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program, a transformative week-long leadership camp designed to nurture and empower young community leaders. The camp will offer a mix of leadership seminars, speakers, team sports, competitions and challenging rope courses. Boys camp will be July 14th-20th and the girls camp will be July 20th-26th. In an effort to identify and prioritize housing issues in the state, the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA) and the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) is asking New Mexicans to take the “State of New Mexico Community and Fair Housing Survey” to get the public’s opinion.
