As a reminder, construction on New Mexico Highway 174, the road that provides public access to the Catwalk National Recreation Trail, is still under construction. Construction activities include repaving from milepost 0.75 to the Catwalk parking area, replacement of the concrete low water crossing, elevation of the road grade, enhancement of side drainage crossings and replacement and upgrade of drainage structures to accommodate past-wildfire runoff conditions. During construction, the road will remain open with one lane and traffic delays of up to 30 minutes. Construction is set to be completed in July.
The Luna County Road Department is informing the public that construction improvements for McCan Road Southeast are still taking place and are expected to last over the next two weeks. Efforts to prepare the subgrade and base course for chip seal operations are almost complete and the road department plans on having the entire two miles of road between Solana Road Southeast and Rockhound Road Southeast completed by June 18th. Additional paving will continue on McCan Road and a few other locations throughout the summer as weather permits.
